Getting Started as an Investigator
This overview provides a brief introduction to what you will do as an Investigator in SliceVault. It outlines your core responsibilities - accessing study repositories, uploading and submitting imaging data, and completing required forms.
What You’ll Do in SliceVault
Once logged in, you will upload and submit imaging data associated with your study site. Your tasks typically follow a clear process as you can read below.
Prepare and Upload Images
As an Investigator, you will begin by registering a new patient or adding images to an existing patient’s record and assigning them to the correct visit. Next, choose the relevant image files and simply drag-and-drop them into SliceVault to process and upload.
Before upload, SliceVault automatically de-identifies all images according to the DICOM standard. If burned-in annotations are detected, you will be prompted to review and mask any sensitive Personal Health Information.
Fill Out Data Transfer Form
In some studies, you are requred to fill out a Data Transfer Form (DTF) as part of the upload process. These forms are linked to the data you’ve submitted and are used to collect essential details about the images and transfer. In other studies, no DTFs are required - this depends on the specific study protocol.
Complete Submission
After completing the upload, navigate to the Visit Dashboard to review all data associated with the selected patient and visit. Once you’ve confirmed that everything is in order, submit the uploaded images for quality control, ensuring the data proceeds correctly through the study workflow.
Note These steps form the foundation of your work in SliceVault as an Investigator. Each action is documented in more detail within the sub-pages below.
Add-on Features to the Investigator Role
Investigators may have access to certain add-on features to support protocol-specific data handling.
Feature | Description |
---|---|
Image Masking | Allows manual review and masking of burned-in annotations containing Personal Health Information (PHI). This is useful when automatic de-identification is insufficient for meeting study requirements. |
DICOM Tag Editor | Enables viewing and editing of metadata in DICOM files. This tool helps ensure that identifying fields comply with the protocol’s de-identification standards. |
Upload Un-Redacted Data | Provides an option to upload data without automatic redaction. This is typically used for troubleshooting if SliceVault is unable to correctly process or display your data. |
